resort 2011

*major preface to this: i will be doing a fall 2010 recap as well… i just got so excited about resort because it’s my favorite collections of the year….what other time of the year can you wear shorts and short skirts with blazers and boots?

you are probably thinking, it’s only july…seriously?

i know it’s hard to start thinking about next year (let alone what your closet is going to look like), but it was the first time i was able to sit down and look at all the collections for resort 2011 and get  a grasp on the trend reports.  after reading and looking, publications have declared 10 trends happening in the shows. after going through all the shows, i narrowed it down to my top 3 looks for each.

1.) flats with evening dresses–this might be my favorite one: no one sees your shoes in an evening gown anyway…why not be comfortable!

         Bottega Veneta

                 Giorgio Armani

2.) the white suit- always a classic, but here are some that stood out to me:

                                            3.1 Phillip Lim*

Costume national

3.) cropped sweater- such a cute way to layer when it’s not super cold out.

              Rag & Bone*

  Derek Lam

4.) touch of chartreuse– we have seen neons in full outfits in full force over the past seasons, but this is a much easier way to wear it…because let’s be honest, not many of us look too fabulous in a full chartreuse suit.

                                                         Salvatore Ferragamo

Roksanda Ilincic*

5.) color blocking- below are a few examples in of this technique in different forms…such a great way to even mix and match in your closet with items you already have.

6.) head-to-toe print– a little overwhelming-i know, but here are some designers that i loved.

                                                          Giorgio Armani

7.) hot pants– oh yes, they’re back! this gives us all plenty of time to get our legs in shape this fall.

                                       Tory Burch*

Marc Jacobs*

8.) little bag-long strap ladies, go back to your 80’s closet (or mom’s!) and get them back out…love these!

                                                   Michael Kors

Salvatore Ferragamo*

9.) mixing prints- if done incorrectly = major disaster…so please use caution and take note below!

                                                     Just Cavali*

Proenza Schouler*

10.) alernative wedding dresses– after seeing some of these, i wish when i was wedding dress shopping a few years ago, i had taken note of some dresses other than the vera’s, monique’s, and reem acra’s…simply because there are some other designers that do such beautiful white gowns.

                                                   Zac Posen

Christian Dior

Thanks for the update on trends. I do love the mixed patterns but if my big a*** stepped out in solid print head to toe or hot pants, it would be scarrrrrry. Do love to know what I COULD wear though if I were skinny and rich!!
