fashionista friday-lela rose

lela makes some of the most beautiful clothes out there–her pieces really are works of art (and her pup is really cute)

*from dallas, texas and attended the university of colorado (it’s a breath of fresh air to have someone from the southeast, and boulder is one of my favorite cities!)

*while studying painting and sculpture in school, she made vests out of vintage fabric as a hobby and decided that was her passion

*after graduating in 1991, she headed to nyc to go to parson’s and graduated in 1993

*after graduating, she worked under christian francis roth and richard tyler

*in 1996, she started her own collection out of her own closet

*her big break came when she designed jenna & laura bush’s dresses for their father’s inaugeration

*soon there after, she was picked up by bergdorf’s and neiman’s…now, i see her line everywhere

*she has famous clients such as: ashley judd, jessica simpson, and mary kate & ashley olsen

*quote: “My philosophy of design is about understandable shape and great fabric with unexpected detail.”

*i was really impressed with her spring 2011 collection because she really stepped out of her comfort zone. love the mix of prints and bright colors…here are some of my favs that should be hitting stores now:

her real talent though, has to come from her sculpture background because her ability to drape makes it look like a sculpture

*runway images from style.com, and you can see the entire collection here
